RESOURCES
The York Charitable Foundation is dedicated to providing students with the information and resources needed to ensure their success. Here, you'll discover a range of resources, including both federal and state of Colorado offerings, to assist you in navigating the path to higher education and a bright future.
FEDERAL AID
Financial aid is available to assist eligible students in covering the costs of their education while pursuing a degree. By completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), you will automatically be considered for three types of financial aid:
GRANTS
WORK-STUDY
STUDENT LOANS
There is no need for separate application forms to be considered for these types of aid. It is recommended to apply early and renew your application annually for continued consideration.
NEED-BASED FINANCIAL AID
Eligibility for need-based financial aid is determined by the FAFSA and the availability of funds. Qualification must be established each year to receive need-based awards, which may include:
GRANTS
WORK-STUDY
FEDERAL SUBSIDIZED DIRECT LOAN
Grants and gift aid, in general, do not require repayment. Work-study awards are earned through on-campus or off-campus employment. A Subsidized Direct Loan signifies that the federal government covers the interest while you are in school.
As per federal financial aid regulations, the total financial aid award cannot surpass the Cost of Attendance.
SCHOLARSHIPS
Scholarships are a form of gift aid that does not need to be repaid. These opportunities typically involve an application process and may have specific eligibility criteria related to a student's:
ACADEMIC
MERIT
FINANCIAL
NEED
COMMUNITY SERVICE
PREFERENCES
Grades,
test scores
Sometimes defined differently than by the FAFSA guidelines
Work history, involvement in community activities
Such as gender, being a first-generation student, race, ethnic identity, community involvement, major or minor degree program, age, special talents and hobbies, and memberships in organizations
It is important to review and follow the specific requirements of each scholarship opportunity to increase your chances of success in obtaining this form of financial assistance.
